More Vista
It's been several days since the initial install. I've upgraded to the 5728 build from the 5600. They fixed a few of the issues I was seeing. The problems with the resource intensivness of the OS seems to have been worked on a bit. I still have problems playing Mah Jong and using the Media Player at the same time. The music sounds slowed down a bit and gets crackly and the game gets 'stuck' for a few seconds at a time. I can't run anything else when I'm using the two programs together. The boggieness I was seeing while using the browsers (Fire Fox and IE7) has improved quite a bit but it's still not quite where it needs to be.
One problem, and a biggy that others are having as well, is after install of the OS: No CD/DVD. The Device Mangler says they're there and working with no problems but insert a disk of any kind and either nothing happens or the system instructs you to put media in the chosen device. Even after upgrading to build 5728 the problem was still there. Just for S&G's I went back to the Device Mangler, uninstalled the LG CD/DVDROM, did a refresh and let it reinstall. It's been fine since then. I wondered if I'd lose it on reboot. Nope, still here! Did the same thing with Sony DVDRW and it's working fine as well. So, it would appear that on install of the OS Windows sees the drives, says it installed them but something got lost along the way.
I've had time to do a bit of exploring, experimenting and playing around with some of the features. There are alot of features! I'll explore a few in my next update.
Oh! Almost forgot! The upgrade to 5725 was a bit painful in that I couldn't burn the ISO image as directed and since my drives weren't reading I couldn't use the burned disk from a another netork computer. So I attempted an install from the network using the downloaded file "as-is" and it went in beautifully and flawlessly though it was a bit slow as our network is not superfast. Nice, very nice!
