Gmail SUCKS

Gmail sucks when attempting to use it as a business replacement email server.

It's inconsistant. Sometimes it sends all the email it should and other times not. I've played with the settings til I'm blue in the face. We're talking POP settings here.

It's not 'trapping' email. If that was the case when I go and change the POP settings to send all the email now it wouldn't send those 'trapped' items. And there are times on it's own it'll send one or two of the email I'm referring to then it just dies. But, it is sending them. Just not after changing the setting. I have to keep returning and resetting that setting in order to get all the mail I should. The only solution I see is to set it to not POP and then POP it peridodically throughout the day. Real nice. Real convenient. Or I work strictly from Gmail and say screw Outlook. That's helpful too. Then I have to wade through all the other email to find what I'm looking for.

I just want the damn thing to work so *I* can do *my* work. In case you haven't noticed I'm super PO'ed about this situation. I'm told that this will work. Well it's not and I've about had it with Gmail.

I don't know how the email addys are set up at Gmail but I suspect it's something to do with the callcenter email addy as that's not even a legit addy. More a mask for me to use to send to staff with. I'm not a sys admin. I have no clue as to how my account was set up. I have no clue as to how to fix this. But I do know this much … working fast-food is beginning to look mighty tempting. Sigh.

Using yahoo groups via email list I always get my posts (ones I've written or replied to another member) sent to me from yahoo. They show up in the list in my folder on Outlook. That's no longer happening either.

I'm having a difficult time explaining the problem(s) so what good does it do to post about it? I know what I'm not receiving and I know what I need to receive and what I was receiving prior to the move to Gmail. But I don't know how to fix it or if there is a way to fix it. I don't like it!

Life improves

Gmail, POP, and Outlook are a very volatile combination.

Google disallows reflected email. You cannot POP an email from yourself in any form through the google servers except in one situation. You can POP self-originated email in a full account scan; that is: receive all email even those already received. You cannot pop incidental email for an account originated by that same account. This is true of email forwarded from another recipient back to the originating account. This is also true of messages delivered from a list or an email group that originated from the same account requesting POP service.

Outlook does not adequately disguise a sender's identity. Google *knows* Microsoft quite intimately. POP requests from Outlook confirm, for Google, the requestor identity in such a way that Google simply puts the email in the "You have this already" list. In fact, the user does have the email (in their sent box).

All things considered, there really is no need to POP those emails. Outlook users can make a rule that puts all mail sent to specific accounts in specific folders instead of attempting delivery. It saves precious bandwidth when dial-up users can appreciate the frugality.

RESOLVED!!

Thank you so much! You have no idea how badly the situation was affecting me. If you would post, in plain English, how the issue was solved … . I still don't even know exactly what the problem was. Some of it I did but most not. As I said, I'm no sysadmin. I just know I'm almighty relieved that my mail is back to doing what I need it to do to function effectively. Laughing

ETA: Actually, some of the email I do need. In yahoo groups for continuities sake yahoo sends the messages you post via email to your email addy of record just as it does any other post by any other member. It makes it difficult to follow along in a fast moving group when I don't receive those posts. The only other option is to go to the group web interface and post from there. Gmail does send those posts to me. And it's currently the only way I can see if there have been replies to anything I've submitted. Oh well. At least work has improved. Wink

In plain English

Do you realize this thing you ask? Sure you do …

I'll try, but you might have to help with some of the translation.

The source of pain was that google does not burden an end user with reading e-mail they send to themselves. That e-mail, after all, is already in the sender's sent mail archive. However, for those who don't find sent mail archive an easy search, the previously mentioned policy is an annoyance.

The solution, quite simple, was to create an alternate email for reading a google group. With that arrangement, the sender's email is not recognized as the same recipient. With hundreds of available e-mail accounts in our domain, the solution was trivial.

It is possible

A group can be constructed to receive external group emails. A "master moderator" channel, if you wish.

I further see upon the shoulders of giants.

But now you've said it

and I can say: the complaint is registered.

I am working on it. Now you can know: The issue is being addressed.

My complaint is the back-pedalling I am forced into when I get the a point pressed again and again and again and … . As an aside, by addressing issues here, you give help to anyone who experiences the same problem.
